BASED IN DENVER COLORADO
Katie Beth is a wedding photographer based in Denver, Colorado, capturing timeless moments for couples across the Denver Front Range and beyond. With over 10 years of experience, her work reflects her passion for creating genuine, heartfelt imagery that tells the unique stories of each couple.
Your engagement session is more than just a warm-up for the wedding day. It’s a moment to slow down, laugh together, and celebrate this new season of life.
The outfits you choose play a subtle but powerful role in how your story is told. They help shape the tone, complement the scenery, and most importantly, help you feel confident in front of the camera.
As a Denver engagement photographer, I’ve photographed couples all across the Front Range. From city streets to mountain meadows I’ve found that the best photos come when couples wear something that feels most like them. Below are a few simple tips to help you plan outfits that look beautiful, feel effortless, and capture your story authentically.
I always recommend bringing two outfits for your engagement session. One for a more polished look and one for a more relaxed feel. It adds variety to your gallery and gives you both the chance to show different sides of your personality.
The Polished Look
Think timeless and elegant. A flowing dress that moves in the breeze, a tailored jacket, or an outfit that feels just a little more elevated than your everyday wear. These pieces photograph beautifully in open spaces or urban backdrops and give your session a classic feel.
The Relaxed Look
This is your chance to feel comfortable and be yourselves. Something you would wear on a special night out, like jeans and a soft top, a simple dress, or a cozy sweater. Choose clothing that lets you move, laugh, and enjoy the moment. Comfort always translates beautifully on camera.
1. Two Outfits, Two Vibes
Your engagement session location often sets the mood. What you wear should feel natural for the environment. Most couples I work with choose between two main styles: urban or landscape.
Urban Sessions
Downtown Denver, Union Station, or RiNo side streets are perfect for a refined, modern look. Structured pieces like tailored jackets, a sleek blazer, or a classy trench coat pair beautifully with the clean lines of city architecture. Neutrals like black, ivory, camel, or muted jewel tones stand out subtly against stone and glass. Opt for polished accessories. Think simple watches, elegant shoes, or minimal jewelry. Complete the look with understated sophistication.
Landscape Sessions
If we are heading into the foothills, a golden meadow, or a lakeside trail, softer colors and natural fabrics work best. Earthy neutrals, dusty blues, sage, taupe, or cream complement Colorado’s natural light. Think linen dresses or tops, subtle flannel shirts, denim, or other natural fibers that move gracefully in the wind. Go with comfortable footwear or we may even have some barefoot moments! Keep the focus on your connection and the landscape around you.
2. Dressing for Your Location
Color and texture set the tone for your photos. Choose pieces that complement each other without busy patterns or distracting logos. Soft, natural fabrics like linen, cotton, or subtle knits create depth and interest in your images. Think about how your outfit feels as much as how it looks. Textures add dimension and help your photos feel effortless and timeless.
3. Color & Texture
Choose outfits that reflect your personalities. Don’t feel pressure to follow trends or try something that feels unnatural. The goal is to capture your connection authentically. When you feel like yourselves, your photos will too.
